Hello all! I have to admit it has been a crazy couple of weeks! Here is a way through, my motto perhaps: Prayer is paramount and Prayer prevails…it just does.

So, on top of all the nasty bilirubin symptoms Michael was having he developed a fever last Friday and it was still present Saturday morning. Thankfully we did have antibiotics prophylactically on hand and we started him on them Saturday morning.  By Sunday morning the fevers were gone. However, we had put the bilirubin bags on to help drain off any infection and when we removed them again (after only 4 hours) his right drain was leaking like crazy. We had to change the dressing every 2-3 hours. We called the advice nurse and she consulted with an interventional radiologist who said to put the right bag back on and stop eating in order to prepare for another drain exchange in the morning. OK I only slept about 2 -3 hours that night. When we were up around midnight, changing a dressing, I rigged up a giant pad and covered it with saran wrap so we could try and rest. Then I prayed really hard. I asked for help and I really meant it. And then at that point in time the leaking stopped. Oh, thank God! The next day we chose not to go get another drain exchange. The problem was solved. That would have been a whole new insult to Mike’s body!

Monday and Tuesday were recovery days and since then there has been a step-by-step reversal of the nasty bilirubin symptoms! Pee and poop are the correct colors, itching has reduced way down, mental fog finally lifted. GERD has way reduced. His appetite has even come back although he is challenged to drink down the vegetable juice I make for him (and me) now that I added beets to really cleanse the liver.  He has been so weak. Just laying in his recliner and with no mental strength. Wednesday he started doing taxes again and we managed a trip to Costco to pick up his new hearing aids!

He got another fever today, Thursday, which was unexpected because he is still on antibiotics. We contacted the advice nurse by phone and the answer is, as always, go to the ER. We do not plan to do that. So, another day of wait and see. AND we know that it can all reverse with prayer and overwhelming love from God that accepts our darkness and shadow selves along with our light.

Oh, I almost forgot, my hip has been slowly doing better. I went to a good chiropractor today and I think I have a good plan for healing for me too!

  1. “Pee and poop are normal colors.” What are we doing, painting a picture? Haha. Nothing is sacred.

Hi my sweet, kind, beautiful, and wonderful friends!

You have been so much in my heart. Leandra and I talk about you both often, and together we pray for you. Mike, this truly is a path overgrown from lack of travel. And yet, there you are, blazing this trail with such courage! You are an inspiration to me, personally, and to all who know you. You and Sarinha! What a beautiful provision she is to you, sent straight from heaven. May our faith in His love and His power to heal us never fail, so that we can continue to pray for you and witness your full recovery. On a side note, I wanted to thank you and Sarinha for being such a blessing to Leandra, in a time of her life when she really needed it. I love you and your family forever!!!

Hah! Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner were telling the truth. Saran Wrap is the greatest invention! Love love love you guys.

» REINER: In the 2,000 years you’ve lived, you’ve seen a lot of changes.
    » BROOKS: Certainly.
» REINER: What is the biggest change you’ve seen?
» BROOKS: In 2,000 years, the greatest thing mankind ever devised, I think, in my humble opinion, is Saran Wrap. You can put a sandwich in it. You can look through it. You can touch it. You can put it over your face and you can fool around and everything. It’s so good and cute. You can wrap it up. I love it. You can put three olives in it and make a little one. You can put 10 sandwiches in it and make a big Saran Wrap. Whatever you want. It clings and sticks. It’s great. You can look right through it.”
» REINER: You equate this with man’s discovery of space?
    » BROOKS: Dat was good.

    1. Sarah

Haha! yes, Mel Brooks had a lot of things right.
