You all are due an update!
Michael came home on Monday 9/30/24. First at 7:20AM I had an appointment at the endodontist for tooth pain. There I got scheduled for a root canal the very next day. It seems when things go, the really go all out. Haha!
It is a huge relief for me to have Michael home. I can take care of the house and other business and still look after him, rather than hanging at the hospital all day. I did always come home nights and our kitty would curl up with me in the bed.
Here are his descriptive words:
Thanks to a handful of doctors, three units of blood transfusion, a platoon of capable nurses, four iron infusions, lots of antibiotics, painkillers and other supporting meds, visits from friends and family, your prayers and love and Sarah by my side, my 5-day hospital vacation, which at first looked like it might be the end of my stay on planet earth, is over. I’m back home convalescing under Sarah’s watchful care.
Other words from him are: Well, I am out of the deep waters and on the riverbank but it’s a wet, slippery slope and I could fall back in the water at any time.
So here we go. Another layer of uncertainty. Not the fever kind, but the challenged liver kind AND the low blood iron kind. So, hello painful tummy and low energy. Digestion is a lot worse. Now his diet is low salt and low fiber and low protein. Hmmmm – very different!??
We both know things could go either way. I am thankful that I do feel more prepared for his degrading health and then death. He is on palliative care and they will provide any equipment we might need (walkers, beds etc.) After that there is the option to move him back into hospice. However, we are both hopeful that he will recover and have a decent quality of life.
He does show signs of improvement, and what he went through is not a small thing. Time will tell.
Prayer Request: Healed and improved liver that functions amazingly efficiently!
